Miasma of Dreams (0.1.3)
Miasma of Dreams is a short text-based adventure game that follows a party of selected characters through a quest to try to save a tainted land from the clutches of a green dragon known as The Verdant Mist. This game contains heavy amounts of tf and identity play themes, and is adult in nature.
InformationCurrently there are ten encounters, each with generic scenes for each of the party members. These come alongside descriptions of what fate befell each party member, as well as a unique scene should they manage to reach the end of the green dragon's lair. Most of the scenes in the game involve identity play, hypnosis, transformation, implications of soul vore, and of course a heavy focus on dragon breath.
The main drive of the game is to proceed through a set dungeon with a mix of scripted and random encounters in order to reach the end - where upon the game ends. Collecting achievements through various methods; challenges, progression, and even secrets, allows you to unlock additional characters for your party (There are planned to be at least ten in total).
Each character in a party contributes to the overall stats of the party, which are used to overcome encounters. Encounters have a skill requirement for each of the main attributes in the game (Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma). Failure generally results in the encounter abducting a party member, instantly 'defeating' a party member, or responding with a set of moves designed to make some checks harder and some easier.
Characters also generally have abilities which enable them to help further the party's aims in reaching the end of The Verdant Mist's lair. These include things that provide a bonus to morale (an omni-stat which boosts all other stats when high or reduces them when low), stats, reduction in the opponent's required skill level, or even being able to avoid an encounter entirely. Skills have limited uses, and can typically only be used in encounters themselves.
When a character is abducted, their stats are removed from the party's own until they are rescued. If a character is 'lost', they are gone for the remainder of that adventure - and the party also takes a hit to morale. Abduction itself counts down on a timer, with it progressing through three stages (initial, close to lost, lost).
There are certain limitations to inform that prevent me from doing certain things. The code that was meant to check if you only have a single party member remaining, for example, does not work. This means that the party is always referred to in the plural, even if its only one unit. Additionally this means that even if all party members are captured, the options to continue on (in vain) remain rather than being replaced with an option to struggle. I feel that these aren't too large of issues, but they are very much noticeable.
The first area of the game, the jungle that the adventure begins in, is awaiting a redesign. The main content is in the second half of the game once you enter the lair. The game is designed to be rather short, somewhat difficult, and encourage replaying with different party members and combinations in order to unlock achievements.
The game started development at the start of April 2024, there is still many many things to be included and planned!
'Hard Save' and 'Hard Load' are for saving and loading between different versions of the game. Inform wasn't built with this feature, so instead a work-around has to be made. This will carry over achievements and if in the game; the room you are in, party composition, morale, ability uses remaining, progression through encounters, and the like. In order to use this feature, simply create a 'hard save' on an older version, download the newer version, and then load the 'hard save'. If both versions were put into the same directory, it should work.
