Unfortunately, things don't go as smoothly as you hoped they would, and you end up attracting much more attention than you'd want.

Improve your skills and mana reservers, learn various spells and perks,climb the ranks of the adventurer's guild and form your own party and - perhaps most importantly - build relationships with multiple girls(at once of course).
