今回依頼を受けた任務は、悪代官と噂に名高い男の屋敷に潜入し、数々の悪行の証拠を掴み、白日の下に晒すこと。

「いぶき」は潜入に最適な頃合いを狙って、人々が寝静まる夜更けに目的の屋敷に侵入する。
目的の証拠の数々が隠された部屋を見つけ、証拠を持って屋敷から離脱しようとしたところ…
事前に情報を得ていた悪代官に雇われた忍びに捕縛されていまった。

諜報能力に優れた悪代官の者たちによって「いぶき」が潜入することがばれており、
簡単には逃げられないところまで潜入させて捕らえようと待ち構えていたのだ。
「いぶき」はまんまと捕まってしまった。

捕まった「いぶき」は、潜入の目的や主(あるじ)の名を吐かせるため、想像を絶する尋問を受けることになる。
ただ、くノ一の修練を積んでいる「いぶき」は、どのようなことをされても口を割ることはないだろう。
